Annie
It is rare to find a picture that speaks volumes, with a voice that bellows beyond borders, evoking the deepest of emotions. The inquiring mind finds it hard to resist the eloquence with which a message in a picture is conveyed, almost as if to say that a picture can easily be equated to a compilation of written words.
This is how I feel about Annie Leibovitz' work. As imaginative as her concepts are there is still a sense of simplicity maintained throughout her work, which I find inviting, uninhibited and unbiased.
She is able to tell a story with each picture, each one different from the last. She incorporates a a sense of ecclecticism that continues to refine her level of individualism.
Ironically enough, even looking at her black and white snaps is like looking through a kaleidoscope of emotions, each one depicted by a different colour.
I absolutely love her!

Trains and Sewing Machines
The other day, the fam decided to test out the Gautrain, the latest addition to South Africa's transportation system, bridging the gap between Pretoria and Johannesburg (Jo-hazardous-burg!) which is absolutely awesome. I really commend it for its sense of efficiency and uber coolness. It kinda gives us South Africans a glimpse of how people have BEEN commuting abroad.
The route caters for a tranquil and scenic view of the cities, buzz and clutter aside.
I took a few snaps ( my little brother got in the way though).

I've been on this meditation and "aligning of chakras" tip lately. I'm not really a meditation guru or anything of the sort, so knowing me, I over thought the whole process, focusing on what music to get. I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to get some instrumental stuff for it to really be effective but I made an exception, opting for deep lyrical stuff (Celtic, new age, lo-fi, trip hop, and a little indie usually get me going). I then remembered a song that I had been a huge fan of. A 90's song which featured what had then sounded to me like a Native American man chanting, but is actually an aboriginal Taiwanese chant. The song is called Return to Innocence by Enigma. I absolutely love it.
Praise You - Fatboy Slim
I just watched this video on MTV. It had been years since I last watched it. Truth be told, it used to creep me out a bit when I was much younger. However, I can't help but enjoy the jive of the people as they spaz out and the triumphant sound of the chorus, it really resonates within me. Fatboy Slim really did it best.
Another one of my Fatboy Slim faves:

I kinda wish I was born in the USA. Despite the abundant beauty that South Africa has and continues to offer its people (which I'm oh so grateful for), I'm completely and utterly engulfed by the culture in the United States of "Uhm-rica" as Borat would say.
Anyway, a friend of mine got me this awesome tee in Washington, which I will be frequenting without fail. As you can see I took full advantage of this opportunity to pose.

Last week was particularly awkward. You see it was my birthday on the 3rd and the manner in which I went about spending it is beyond me. I oh so torturously decided to be in the company of a bunch of friends, the worst being the likes of Michelle Gerber and the Salamanca sisters:)
You see, my friend Vanessa J. Salamanca (muchas exotic name right?) had welcomed her sister Tamara from the land of yodeling a few days prior and so they insisted on bestowing upon me their terrible tendencies which they probably refer to as a "bag of fun". Little did I know of the magnitude of Tamara and my other friend Michelle's friendship, which made her assume the rule of the third Salamanca.
Vanessa had to hurry off, but the other two decided to whisk me off to a treasure trove in the form of a desolate antique shop. Who could forget the chinese clothing store or Dekopunk, the cool decor store with all things kitchy to be sold. We also drank R8,00 tea while Let Go by Frou Frou served as a the soundtrack to our effing funny convo.
A fraction of my day in no particular order...
Poor baby...
"Ah, Tamara! you turn those pages so well."
Dekopunk...
The Salamanca sisters doing a little foreign exchange :)
Me thinking that I'm Horatio Cane.

Me doing the crazy hand dance that only Tamara understands...

Michelle looking awfully trigger happy...
Awesome day with quasi awesome people :p

God bless the free spirit, for he remains unchained
Uninhibited, unscathed and untamed.
How awesome were the 70's? (yes, I wasn't there)
There's nothing more succulent than the taste of passionately expressed thoughts spanning from a freed mind.
Gone are the hippie days.
We've really gone astray of the true meaning of peace, love and happiness... makes me a tad bleak even.
